About

Since 1974, Virginia Humanities have been connecting people and ideas, sharing untold stories, and helping Virginians understand one another better. This milestone year is an opportunity to honor that past while looking toward the future.

Come raise a glass to Virginia’s heritage, community, and future. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

  • Cider Tastings: Sample some of the best ciders from across the commonwealth.

  • Live Music & Food Trucks: Enjoy music by The Lua Project and delicious eats.

  • History in Action: Watch historical demonstrations and explore how cider has shaped everyday life over the centuries, including by interpreters in the Frontier Culture Museum’s historic sites and a cooking demonstration by Leni Sorensen and Elizabeth Beamon.

  • Book & History Talks: Discover the role of cider in shaping America. Hear from authors and historians, including from cider historian Mark Turdo, apple grower Clyde Jenkins, and authors Diane Flynt (Wild, Tamed, Lost, Revived: The Surprising Story of Apples in the South), Gregory Hansard (Virginia Cider: A Guide from the Colonial Days to the Craft’s Golden Age) and Allistair Reece (Virginia Cider, A Scrumptious History).
